Rachel Childress is a nonverbal young woman with spastic quadraparesis
cerebral palsy, a developmental disability which affects the brain’s ability
in the areas of body movement, muscle coordination and tone.

Rachel drives herself around in a powered wheelchair and she has learned to
express herself through her painting with the limited use of her left hand.
Rachel’s painting ability became apparent after she started Integrative Manual
Therapy (IMT™) at the age of 23, which improved her physical ability and also
triggered creative ability in her brain.

The quality of her paintings improved drastically after starting the IMT™.  She
is
thrilled to have discovered a way to make others happy with her art.

Rachel was raised in the mountains of western North Carolina, and is a native
of Madison County - she now lives just outside of Asheville, NC.  Rachel lives
in an “alternative family living” (AFL) situation now with a wonderful host
family which she loves dearly.

She comes home regularly to visit her mom and dad, and her dog, Ozzie, and
cat, Tess.  Rachel works at Goodwill Industries in Asheville and enjoys her
work there and also the art class that they offer weekly.  Her hobbies include
shopping, going to movies, going to the beach, and of course - painting.
